Financial Literacy
We help Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals understand money management, budgeting, saving, financial planning, and responsible financial decision-making.
NIDA is a programme under Novel Initiatives for Development Foundation (NIDEF). We support Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals through sign language-supported training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, business finance, digital skills, customer service technology, and job readiness.
Building Skills. Creating Access. Expanding Opportunity.

Novel Initiatives for the Deaf in Africa (NIDA) exists to close the gap in access to financial education, digital skills, and economic opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
Many Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals are excluded from training and work opportunities because learning spaces, communication systems, and workplace tools are often not designed with sign language access in mind.
NIDA responds to this gap through practical training, community partnerships, sign language-supported learning, and technology-enabled programmes.

We help Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals understand money management, budgeting, saving, financial planning, and responsible financial decision-making.

We support Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals who want to start, manage, or grow small businesses. This includes business idea development, pricing, expenses, profit, cash flow, customer management, sales, and basic record keeping.

We train Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals to use digital tools for communication, customer support, workplace readiness, and business operations. Customer service technology is an important part of this programme.

We support Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals with basic preparation for work opportunities. This includes CV writing, interview preparation, workplace communication, professional conduct, and confidence-building.

Economic empowerment is the overall goal of NIDA’s work.
Through financial literacy, entrepreneurship and business finance, digital skills, customer service technology, and job readiness, NIDA helps Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals build confidence, strengthen income opportunities, prepare for work, and participate more fully in economic life.
NIDA’s February 2026 pilot programme recorded 200 registered Deaf participants.
The pilot showed the need for accessible training in financial literacy, digital skills, and economic empowerment within the Deaf community.
NIDA works with Deaf community networks and associations to reach participants directly and build trust.
Through these partnerships, we are able to understand community needs, design relevant programmes, and reach Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals who may not have access to mainstream training opportunities.
Our programmes focus on knowledge and skills that participants can apply in everyday life, business, digital work, customer support, and workplace settings.
NIDA is not only focused on awareness. We focus on practical learning that can support real-life decisions, income opportunities, and long-term confidence.

Your support can help us make financial education, digital skills, and economic empowerment training available to more Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
